Monte Carlo
I have been interested of creating light in full digital environment, computer light so to say. In computer, light does not act like in real world. It can be cut anywhere, you can choose if light does a shadow or not. Does it reflect in space and in which way?
This is idea is nothing new under the Sun but is has been sort of haunting me for decades. Same time interesting and odd to work with.
We are used to explain images filtered by our knowledge of the real world physics. We see a false image but tend to turn to reality. This is more important in the time we live with the images produced by artificial intelligence but always under the control of humans.
The idea behind the works is false and true. They are inspired by of this photon simulation and it salutes the union of science and art.
Monte Carlo simulation is a numerical modeling method that utilizes probability theory and statistics. It involves repeatedly performing similar calculations multiple times using what is known as a Monte Carlo algorithm. The result is not exact; however, the probability of error can be set to a desired level. As the accuracy increases, the execution time also grows.
They are rendered by different methods of calculating. Low tech photon mapping with Monte Carlo based calculation is mainly used in these pieces. 2002-2024.
